Balmain Rozelle Pubs and Bars

Balmain and Rozelle pubs and bars are friendly places to go to meet your friends, hear some great music, drink a good beer and escape from the stresses of the day.

A Welcoming Atmosphere

Harbourside Balmain and Rozelle were once the home of Sydney’s shipping and maritime industry. Although a mix of middle and working-class families lived in the area the pubs were a haven for the dockers and industry workers.

Many of the pubs reflect their old maritime heritage: the Dry Dock Hotel, Forth & Clyde Hotel, and the Shipwright’s Arms Hotel. Those tough times are gone but the character and atmosphere of the pubs still remain welcoming, safe and friendly.

Great Music Venues

The pubs in Balmain and Rozelle are some of Sydney’s iconic music venues. They have provided the start for many great Aussie bands. The Whitlams, The Waifs and Leonardo’s Bride started out at the Cat and Fiddle. The Three Weeds in Rozelle was once the premier folk venue in Sydney. The Bridge Hotel at Rozelle is one of Sydney’s most loved rock and blues venues. It has hosted Midnight Oil, BB King, The Badloves, Guy Sebastian, Tex Perkins, and Diesel.

Some Of Our Great Bars And Pubs

We recommend some of the best pubs in the area: Exchange Hotel, Royal Oak Hotel, Sackville Hotel, William Hardman, Corner Bar Rozelle, Dry Dock Hotel, Merton Hotel, Sir William Wallace Hotel.

Celebrity Watching

The Sir William Wallace Hotel (the “Willy Wally”) is popular with both locals and overseas visitors. Perhaps they are trying to catch sight of actor Mel Gibson, a famous patron. Balmain is a haven for actors and theatre professions. You might even spot Oscar winner Judy Davis and her husband, actor Colin Friels having a glass of white somewhere. Brian Brown and Rachel Ward are Balmain locals.
